The United States Coast Guard requires all vessels less than 12 meters (39 feet) to carry an efficient sound producing device. Also, all vessels over 12 meters (39 feet) and less than 20 meters (65 feet) must carry a power whistle or power horn and a bell.
The whistle must be audible for 1/2 nautical miles.
The mouth of the bell must be at least 200mm (7.87 inches) in diameter.
